Opening Scene
This opening scene shows that the cinematographer was trying to display that this short film will be about how time passes slowly and that the characters are in some sort of 'time lapse' due to a certain circumstance. An establishing shot from the movement of the clouds shows this as the clouds gradually move during the day, therefore this represent time moving slowly; the clouds moving have been speeded up to show how long the characters have been there to show the amount of movement has happened. From watching the film for the first time you could feel as if the film may be under genre of thriller as it is in black and white and the clouds may symbolise a sense of fear as they are moving so fast and as the clouds represent time it could be seen as someone being captured.
Following the scene of the opening scene you see the movement of different cars coming in and out from the car park, this shows the amount of cars have been coming and going that the boys have seen which shows the length of time. Also the camera shot is an establishing shot which views the whole scene, the audience may change their view of the genre to romantic as in the older generation a typical date for teens is to be taken out to watch a film at an outside cinema and the view of the car looks stationary which indicates that the film may be about romance. Cinematographer carefully thought about how they done this scene as it allows the audience to have a think about what may be in store.
In this third scene that I choose the director shows the three main characters and presents to the audience the title of the film 'two cars, one night' as you can see the boys and girl in their cars looking at each other which looks like the film will begin to have meaning to the audience, followed by that you see the two cars parked side by side each other and the view of the hotel which can symbolise the 'one night' in the title of the film as hotels are an indication of someone staying over the night.
Here you can see that the two are teasing each other and by their facial expressions you can see that they are both getting agitated by each others comments. Children who may be attracted by each other often tease each other which is seen as flirting; by teasing each other shows that they may have feelings for each other. The boy normally is always the first to tease the girl, and the boy is normally the one to be more interested in girls than a girl. He may be also teasing her because he has been in the car with his brother for a long time which shows his boredom; this indicates the length that they have been there so he is now trying to entertain himself and be a trouble maker. The director shows a sense of 'young love' being formed.
The girl holding the ring can show representation of the genre of the film being about 'romance' as a ring symbolises love and marriage, however although the children are too young to think about love this can represent time and how long they wait for their parents to come back in the car, the length of time in the car shows that there friendship is ageing by the length of time they have to wait.
